I have been using NJ Communicator 2.25 for years, I cant see Chinese in any Firefox version (IE 6/7 and system Chinese files names are fine) so I tried the newer version (2.73 and 2.75). After I installed it, I cant see anything. IE and Firefox both messed up. For system file, I see some square things instead of the Chinese characters. I am using XP SP3, when I installed the Windows' Asian Language Support, then I will not be able to read the Chinese file names at all (all are created with NJC 2.25).
I wonder if there is any way that I can fix it...

What Windows are you using?

NJ Communicator 2.25 may have created filenames in GB/Big5 (not Unicode), espercially on Windows 9x/ME.

Since NJ Communicator 2.5, we try not create GB/Big5 filename since it's not readable on all systems. We change to Unicode filename.

If you are now using Windows XP and NJ Communicator 2.75, it easy to convert GB/Big5 filename to Unicode by

1. Set NJStar in GB/Big5 mode depends on the filename

2. click the filename in explorer, so it go into editing mode

3. CTRL+C to copy it

4. CTRL+V to paste (NJStar will convert GB/Big5 to Unicode)

thanks for the reply. i am using XP SP3 now
when i started to use njstar, i was using windows 98. after, i changed to winMe, then win2k, then now XP, and i keep using njstar. after that many years i have LOTS of file with chinese characters and it is impossibile to do copy and paste. is there any other way to fix it, like if i can install some unicode thing for it?

On Windows XP and Vista, GB/Big5 filename is already supported by NJStar Communicator v2.75. Please see this screen capture from windows XP.
